Enzyme Name: Nicotinate Dehydrogenase
EC: 1.17.1.5
Sources: Nicotinate Dehydrogenase is derived from the Proteobacteria phylum, specifically the Pseudomonas, Achromobacter, Serratia, Bacillus, Comamonas, and Clostridium genus. These are generally bacteria that can metabolize nitrogenous heterocyclic compounds.
What does this enzyme do?: Nicotinate Dehydrogenase catalyzes the oxidation reaction of nicotinate to 6-hydroxynicotinate. It’s substates are nicotinate and H2O. Nicotinate dehydrogenase shows promising potential industrial applications. It could be used in pesticides, and even wastewater treatment. It’s exact mechanisms are still unclear, and research continues to be done on nicotinate dehydrogenase.
