Enzyme : Alkaline Phosphatase

The enzyme alkaline phosphatase is found in multiple regions in the body such as the liver, bones, Intestines, kidneys, white blood cells and lastly in the placenta.

Alkaline phosphatase plays a crucial role in dephosphorylation, regulating key biological pathways such as liver function, bone formation, and nutrient absorption. By removing phosphate groups, dephosphorylation controls enzyme activity, signaling pathways, cellular processes, and supports essential functions like bone mineralization and nutrient absorption.

Interesting facts about Alkaline Phosphatase is that it takes on multiple different forms (isoforms) depending on where in the body it is found and lastly the name Alkaline Phosphatase is derived from the fact that it is mainly active at alkaline pH, hence the name.
